victorian "FROST" mahogany sofa
A magnificent example of a full-size 19th Century Victorian classic. Numerous features lead us to believe this antique is approximately 150 years old. Sporting shapely curves on every facade, the popular three-arched curving back boasts a crest rail adorned on the center arch by a hand-carved falling leaf motif. After refinishing the multi-toned Mahogany, we chose to composed this piece in complementary deep Garnet-toned, hand-rubbed Full Grain leather cow hides. An all new interior includes an 8-way hand-tied spring bed of 10" heavy-gage steel coils providing superior seat comfort. We finished the sofa in black dome head nails with bright copper 'eyeball' tops. The nail's copper 'pupil' emphasizes the Mahogany's sapwood orange/golden hues, while the black 'iris' captures the darker swirls in the leather and Mahogany heartwood. This one-of-a-kind piece is not just super comfortable, but also a unique blend of art and tradition that is well suited for almost any classic, traditional, Steampunk or eclectic decor. Undocumented provenance...this antique was purchased from a family in the vicinity of Lewistown Pennsylvania, whose heirs claim American Poet Robert Frost's father William P. Frost visited the family when he lived in Lewistown, and could very well have enjoyed the sofa's comfort and beauty. Because the tale and the physical evidence are consistent, we couldn't resist the naming honor.
Sofa measures 73”w x 34”d x 47”h, and weighs approximately 100 lbs.
