Gilded Empire Classical sofa
A beautiful example of Empire Classical, this full-sized Mahogany sofa features four eye-catching solid Mahogany lion’s claw feet, and both front and neck rails in complex dark / light Mahogany veneer, all fully restored inside and out. After carefully refinishing each exposed framing component with clear varnish, we completed the interior seating with 100% new, traditional upholstering components including: eight-way hand-tied steel coil springs covered in a layer of cotton, high density seating foam, and a final layer of Merino wool batting for an optimal seating experience. Then, we meticulously covered the entire sofa with Top Grain leather finished in the ‘Sauvage’ technique, a traditional tanning process that adds luster and multiple subtle color tones. These hides are exceedingly soft and the highest quality available. They are also treated with a transparent top coat that is both stain and wear resistant. Matched dome nails complete the traditional look. Our craftsmen painstakingly hand-gilded several carved details with 23.5 carat gold leaf to further accent this already stunning period piece. Wood, leather and gold are harmoniously combined to create warm and enduring classic seating, perfect for any room in home or professional office.
(As an additional personal note, we fell in love with this sofa because of its ability to please the eye with gentle curves, its ample period details, and the gorgeous veneering that plays perfectly off the tones created by the leather's Sauvage finish. By designing its restoration with darker, more masculine leather and dome nail colors, it comfortably adapted to both the male and female eye in style.
